Chiefs Dominate Missouri's Sports Betting Launch Surge

Early betting trends point to the Chiefs, with wagers on an AFC or Super Bowl title, topping Missouri’s betting scene

Kansas City Chiefs

Missouri’s first few days of legal online sports betting are off to a blazing start, with massive same-day registrations and an influx of bets on a local favorite.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been dominating headlines lately, attracting the bulk of early bets, particularly on futures, such as winning the Super Bowl and the AFC. Sports and betting analysts say that this “early engagement” is driven by pent-up demand from local fans who previously had to travel next state to bet.

Geolocation data also confirms the surge in betting activities. GeoComply reports that the state witnessed roughly 2.6 million geolocation checks on the first 24 hours of the launch.

All Bets Are Off, and the Chiefs Lead the Way

Early betting trends put the money on the Kansas City Chiefs, the state’s popular football team. According to recent data, the majority of the bettors have put their money on the Chiefs, with AFC and Super Bowl title runs. BetMGM, one of the licensed operators, reported a surge in interest, especially when the Chiefs are on the table.

In an interview with KMBC, John Ewing of BetMGM shared that local bettors appear to love their options. He added that when the Chiefs are playing, Missouri “had the most pings of players” trying to access a legal state. Geolocation data suggests the ‘Show Me’ state had the largest volume of attempts to access legal betting options.
