Historic MLB Matchups Become Wagering Markets with DraftKings "DK Replay"

DK Replay Lets Oregon Users Bet on Past Baseball Action

Draft Kings DK Replay UMG

DraftKings has launched a brand new betting product in Oregon called DK Replay, giving sports fans a fresh way to wager on baseball, by betting on historical Major League Baseball (MLB) games and individual pitches. The launch adds a different twist to traditional sports betting, capitalizing into archival data to create an improved and continuous betting experience.

A New Spin on Baseball Betting

The product that is now live in Oregon after receiving approval from the Oregon Lottery, lets eligible users place wagers on anonymized plate appearances from past MLB seasons. Instead of betting on live games, fans can dig into a massive library of archived games and it will let you predict outcomes like whether the next pitch will be a strike, ball, or put in play, even if the real game happened years ago.

Each matchup is presented without revealing the players’ names or teams, keeping the focus on the statistical profile. Players featured in those historical matchups are given bronze, silver, or gold ratings based on key metrics like ERA, batting average, power hitting percentage, and strikeouts per nine innings, giving bettors all the necessary data they can analyze before placing a bet.

DraftKings confirms the new offering is officially categorized as traditional sports betting, because of a regulatory sign off in Oregon, and it’s available through the DraftKings Sportsbook app for users in the state.

How DK Replay Works

  • Anonymized Matchups: When users open DK Replay, they see a hidden pitcher vs hitter scenario pulled from real historical games.
  • Stat based Ratings: Athletes are given ratings based on past performance data to help bettors evaluate the matchup.
  • Pitch by Pitch Betting: Bettors wager on the next pitch, ball, strike, or in play, with odds showing historical probabilities. Outcomes and full matchup details are revealed after wagers are settled.

This approach shows elements of historical horse racing, where bettors wager on past races without knowing outcomes beforehand, offering an engaging betting cycle even outside the normal live event schedule.

DraftKings’ Strategy and Future Expansion

DraftKings’ Chief Product Officer, Corey Gottlieb, highlighted that DK Replay gives fans a new way to stay engaged, even when no live baseball games are happening. The company says now it is exploring launches in other states, pending local regulatory approval.

This launch also fits into an extended strategy for DraftKings, building products that keep users active in the industry year round, rather than just during the main sports calendars. Industry observers note that having always on betting experiences like DK Replay could reshape expectations for how sportsbooks integrate data and historical content.

A Pitch for a New Era of Betting

With DK Replay, DraftKings is pushing the limits of what sports betting can look like in a regulated environment. By getting back historical data to create a steady stream of available markets, the product gives fans something to wager on irrelevant of whether the season is live or not.

Whether this model catches on generally will depend on how other states and regulators respond, but for now, Oregon users are getting a first look at a creative approach on betting that combines past performance with modern betting systems.
