Kewadin Casinos Launches New Phase of Multimillion-Dollar Property Upgrades
Kewadin Casinos is launching a new phase of multimillion-dollar upgrades, including a waterpark, sports bar, hotel improvements, and expanded RV facilities across several Michigan properties.

Kewadin Casinos is preparing to begin the next phase of a long-term, multimillion-dollar investment program that will bring new amenities, property improvements, and infrastructure upgrades across its casino portfolio in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
The project follows earlier renovations at Kewadin Casino Sault Ste. Marie, which included a complete hotel tower remodel, improvements to the property's main entrance, and the introduction of new dining concepts such as Black Rock Bar & Grill and The Eatery. The latest phase expands those efforts across multiple Kewadin properties and is expected to continue through at least 2029.
According to Kewadin Casinos CEO Allen Kerridge, the investments are designed to align with changing guest expectations while creating new entertainment, hospitality, and outdoor recreation options across the company's destinations.
Major Changes Planned for Sault Ste. Marie
Kewadin Casino Sault Ste. Marie will receive the most extensive upgrades under the new development plan.
The property's original casino and hotel East Wing structure along Shunk Road is scheduled for demolition beginning in late 2026. Following that work, Kewadin plans to construct a new sports bar featuring virtual gaming bays and a new waterpark scheduled to break ground in summer 2027.
The waterpark project is expected to include separate family and adult-focused areas, creating what Kewadin describes as the only waterpark in Michigan's eastern Upper Peninsula. The additions are intended to expand the property's appeal beyond traditional casino guests and attract more family-oriented tourism to the area.
RV Parks and Hotel Improvements Across Multiple Properties
Several other Kewadin locations are also set to receive significant upgrades over the next three years.
At Kewadin Casino St. Ignace, hotel room renovations are scheduled to begin in fall 2026, while construction of a new full-hookup RV park is planned for spring 2027. Kewadin Casino Manistique will open a new full-hookup RV park in summer 2026, with restaurant and bar renovations expected to follow.
Kewadin Casino Christmas will receive improvements to its RV facilities, including additional full-hookup options, while Kewadin Casino Hessel is slated for bar and deli renovations along with upgrades to its cabins and RV park infrastructure.
The focus on RV accommodations reflects growing demand for outdoor and recreational travel throughout the Upper Peninsula, particularly during the region's peak tourism seasons.

Investment Focuses on Long-Term Growth
Kewadin officials say the latest projects are intended to improve guest experiences across a wide range of customer segments, from casino visitors and local residents to campers, vacationers, and families.
"We understand that the needs of our guests have evolved over the years, and we are excited for the opportunity to evolve with them," said Kerridge in the company's announcement.
The investment program represents one of the largest development efforts undertaken by Kewadin Casinos in recent years and signals a broader strategy to diversify its properties beyond gaming. By adding new hospitality, dining, recreation, and outdoor accommodation options, the company is positioning its destinations to attract a wider audience while strengthening tourism throughout Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
