McLuck Casino will end Sweeps Coins gameplay in California on December 29th

McLuck, a popular social sweepstakes casino, has announced that it will fully discontinue Sweeps Coins (SC) gameplay for all California players effective December 29, 2025. The company’s decision is a direct response to AB 831, which was approved by Governor Gavin Newsom last October 2025. However, free play with Gold Coins (GCs) will remain on the platform.

McLuck’s recent decision to end Sweeps Coins gameplay aligns with the broader industry exodus out of state, as operators like High 5 Casino and Chumba Casino have announced their departures.

McLuck Joins a Wave of Exits from California in the Last Few Weeks

B-Two Operations, McLuck’s operator, is the second company within the Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA) to announce its exit plan out of California.

Here’s a rundown of the other sweepstakes casino operators in California, and their plans ahead of the looming January 1st deadline:

  • Yellow Social Interactive Ltd.  The company behind Pulsz has announced that it will be ending its operations in California for its Gold Coins and Sweep Coins gameplay, effective December 15th.
  • ARB Interactive. Modo.us will continue its operations until December 31st. After this, the company plans to end Sweeps Coins gameplay, but retain its free-to-play model.
  • VGW. The industry’s biggest operator has remained mum over its plans in California. While VGW hasn’t released an official statement as of press time over its plans in the state, observers expect the company to remain open until the end of the year.

Non-SGLA operators such as Stake.us and WOW Vegas have also announced their plans in California. Stake will fully exit the market on December 20th, ending both Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins gameplay, while WOW Vegas is expected to operate until the end of the year.

McLuck Ready to Expand Its List of Restricted States

McLuck Casino is currently not available in 16 states. By December 29th, its list of restricted states moves up to 17, and McLuck will lose access to the largest sweepstakes casino market. Industry estimates suggest that California corners 17% of the total US sweepstakes casino market, or over $790 million in net revenues. For McLuck, California is one of its biggest markets, in terms of revenue and player engagement.

McLuck’s exit, as part of a broader industry exodus, will have a considerable economic impact on the economy.

According to one projection, banning sweepstakes casinos could remove up to $1 billion in annual economic activity from California, affecting not just operators but suppliers and payment processors, too.

Finally, this abrupt exit may push some players to try unregulated sweeps or offshore betting sites that are far more risky.
