Modo.US Declares Outage Wasn’t a Cyberattack, Reassures Players on Security

Modo.us announces a site-wide outage, reassures players that data remains safe.

Modo Casino

Modo.us, a popular US sweepstakes casino, announced a site-wide outage that was linked to a major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage. The outage hit the gaming platform at around 3 am Eastern Time and lasted until 4 pm. In a Facebook post and email sent to players, the Modo management reassured its players that no data or funds were compromised. The operator confirmed that the service disruption was due to a technical infrastructure failure, and not a cyberattack.

Modo Casino has since fully restored access to its platform and encouraged users with questions to contact its customer support for clarification.

AWS Outage Briefly Crippled Modo Casino’s Services

AWS Outage

According to reports, the Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage last Monday was a technical issue with the company’s Domain Name System (DNS). Amazon shared that the issue was caused by a problematic update to its DynamoDB database API in the AWS Virginia data center. The company shared that the error stopped applications from finding the correct addresses. Around 113 services were affected, but Amazon immediately responded that this was not a cyberattack.

Modo.us was one of the high-profile sites impacted by the outage. The operator immediately informed its users through a Facebook post and email that an outage had occurred, but this was not caused by a cyberattack.

Here’s a part of the email message received by users last Monday:” Please note: the outage was not caused by a cyberattack and did not pose any security risk to Modo Casino or any other affected companies. It was a technical infrastructure failure within Amazon’s systems”.

On Facebook, the operator extended its apology to those affected by the outage and thanked users for their patience. Modo Casino invited its sweepstakes casino players to contact support if they have questions or worries related to the outage.

Cyberattacks are Becoming Common in the Industry

Cyberattack is now a growing concern among casino and sweepstakes casino operators. One of the biggest cyberattacks in recent times happened in September 2024 when MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment suffered an attack.

Boyd Gaming Corporation was the latest company to fall victim to these online attacks. In a filing made with the US Securities and Exchange Commission last September 23, 2025, Boyd Gaming shared that its internal systems had been breached, resulting in the loss of confidential data. The company added that specific employee details were removed from the system.

A former employee of Boyd Gaming filed a lawsuit in Nevada, arguing that the company failed to implement safety measures that could have prevented the theft of personal data.
