Cristiano Ronaldo Returns as Esports World Cup 2026 Global Ambassador

Cristiano Ronaldo is back as the global ambassador for the 2026 Esports World Cup, continuing his partnership with one of the biggest events in competitive gaming.

Ronaldo Continues His Partnership With EWC

Cristiano Ronaldo will once again serve as the global brand ambassador for the 2026 Esports World Cup, extending his partnership with the Esports World Cup Foundation after taking on the role during last year's tournament.

The announcement was first teased on the Esports World Cup's official social media channels before being confirmed by the organization. Ronaldo's return marks another high-profile collaboration between one of the world's most recognizable athletes and one of esports' biggest annual events.

The 2026 Esports World Cup will be held in Paris, France, bringing together thousands of players and dozens of the world's top esports organizations across 24 games and 25 tournaments.

Ronaldo Continues His Partnership With EWC

Ronaldo first became the Esports World Cup's global ambassador in 2025, helping promote the inaugural tournament to audiences beyond traditional esports fans.

With more than one billion followers across his social media platforms, the Portuguese football icon is expected to once again front global marketing campaigns before and during the tournament. His role includes introducing new audiences to esports while highlighting participating teams, players, and major storylines throughout the event.

The Esports World Cup Foundation has not yet detailed Ronaldo's full schedule for this year's tournament, with additional appearances and promotional activities expected to be announced closer to the opening ceremony.

A Longstanding Connection to Gaming

Although best known for his achievements on the football pitch, Ronaldo has maintained strong ties to the gaming industry for years.

He has appeared in collaborations with EA SPORTS FC, eFootball, Garena Free Fire, and most recently Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, where he became a playable character during last year's Esports World Cup.

In a previous interview, Esports Foundation Chief Commercial Officer Mohammad Al Nimer said Ronaldo was the organization's first choice to represent the tournament because of his global reach, competitive mindset, and long history of gaming partnerships.

Ronaldo has also been involved with the Esports World Cup since its earliest stages, participating in the tournament's global launch in 2023, attending the closing ceremony in Riyadh in 2024, and serving as the event's first global ambassador in 2025.

Building Esports' Global Audience

The Esports World Cup has consistently looked beyond the gaming industry when promoting its flagship event, partnering with internationally recognized athletes and entertainers to introduce esports to wider audiences.

Bringing Ronaldo back for a second consecutive year reflects that strategy. His global profile gives the tournament access to millions of sports fans who may not regularly follow competitive gaming, helping bridge the gap between traditional sports and esports.

With the opening ceremony fast approaching, the Esports World Cup Foundation is expected to reveal more details about Ronaldo's involvement as the countdown to the tournament continues.
