Rasmus “Caps” Winther has spent nearly a decade pushing the limits of what European League of Legends players can achieve internationally. Now, Riot Games has officially recognized that legacy.
The G2 Esports mid laner will become the third player inducted into the League of Legends Hall of Legends, joining Faker and Uzi. More importantly for the Western scene, Caps is the first Western player and first LEC representative to receive the honor.
Riot announced the induction on August 16, celebrating a career that has seen Caps become Europe's most decorated League of Legends player while reaching some of the biggest international stages the game has to offer.
Riot's Global Head of LoL Esports, Chris Greeley, described Caps as a player with a rare ability to perform when the pressure is highest.
“Caps always felt like the player you could never fully prepare for.”
Greeley also credited Caps with inspiring a generation of Western players and earning recognition far beyond Europe.
Caps Changed What Europe Could Achieve
Caps began his professional career in 2015 and won his first domestic championship with Dark Passage in Turkey in 2016. His breakthrough came after joining Fnatic, where he won back-to-back EU LCS titles in 2018 and reached the Worlds 2018 Grand Final.
His move to G2 Esports in 2019 produced the defining period of his career.
G2 won the LEC Spring title, MSI 2019, where Caps was named MVP, and the LEC Summer championship. The team then reached the Worlds final, entering the series against FunPlus Phoenix with a chance to complete the Golden Road by winning every major title available that year.
It did not happen. FunPlus Phoenix swept G2 3-0 in Paris, but the run remains one of the closest any team has come to completing the feat.
Caps has remained with G2 through multiple roster changes since then and continued collecting domestic titles. According to the supplied figures, he now has 18 domestic championships, including 17 EU LCS/LEC titles between Fnatic and G2, along with his earlier TCL championship.
He has also become the first LEC player to reach 400 wins and 2,500 kills.
That longevity is part of what makes the Hall of Legends induction significant. Caps is not being recognized solely for one tournament run or one dominant roster. He has remained at the center of European League of Legends for years and is still G2's starting mid laner, with his current contract running through November 2027.
The Champion Pool That Made Caps Different
Caps was given the nickname “Baby Faker” early in his career, but he eventually developed a reputation that went well beyond comparisons to the Korean legend.
His champion pool and willingness to play outside conventional mid-lane picks became major parts of his identity. Sylas became one of his most recognizable champions, while his ability to play unusual picks helped G2 create some of the most difficult drafts to prepare for during its 2019 peak.
Pyke was one of the clearest examples.
G2 could move the champion between different positions, including putting Caps on Pyke in the mid lane. That flexibility forced opponents to prepare for multiple possibilities during the draft instead of simply identifying a champion and its expected role.
That style became one of the defining characteristics of G2's 2019 international run. Caps wasn't simply mechanically talented; his willingness to challenge conventional drafting and playmaking expectations gave G2 another way to attack opponents.
It is also a major reason why his legacy extends beyond the number of trophies he has collected.
Caps Joins Faker And Uzi In The Hall Of Legends
Caps is now the third player to receive the Hall of Legends honor.
Faker became the inaugural inductee in 2024, followed by Uzi in 2025. Caps' selection gives the Hall its first Western representative and its first player from the LEC.
Riot's Hall of Legends is intended to recognize players based on both competitive achievements and their broader impact on League of Legends esports. Eligible players must have competed at Tier 1 level for at least five cumulative years.
Candidates are selected from a pool of eligible players before an independent panel of 50 esports veterans votes on the final inductee. The panel considers international appearances, regional and international championships, role-specific statistics and overall contributions to the esport.
Inductees receive an official trophy and an in-game celebration, with their current and former organizations also receiving a portion of proceeds from the associated Hall of Legends content.
For Caps, that celebration will include a dedicated career pass and cosmetics. Riot has yet to officially reveal the complete collection, although assets added to the League PBE have indicated that Tristana will receive Caps' Immortalized Legend skin.
When Is The Caps Hall Of Legends Event?
Caps' official Hall of Legends trophy ceremony will take place in Berlin on August 18.
The dedicated Hall of Legends website will launch on August 24, followed by the full in-game celebration on September 10. Riot will also release a Hall of Legends film covering Caps' career on the same day.
The key dates are:
- August 18: Caps' Hall of Legends trophy ceremony in Berlin
- August 24: Dedicated Caps Hall of Legends website launches
- September 10: In-game Hall of Legends event begins
- September 10: Caps' Hall of Legends film releases
For European League of Legends, the induction represents more than another individual award. Caps spent years carrying the expectations of a region that has consistently struggled to match the very best teams from Korea and China.
His 2019 G2 roster came closer than almost anyone in the West to breaking through completely, and Caps has remained at the top of Europe's competitive scene long after that roster disappeared.
Now, alongside Faker and Uzi, he becomes one of the three players Riot has deemed worthy of a permanent place in League of Legends history.
